Safety Supervisor

CRST the Transportation Solutions, Inc. is looking to add another talented Safety Supervisor to our growing organization in Vestavia, AL.
Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Starting Salary: $46,226 (can vary based on experience)

Job Summary:  CRST’s Flatbed Solutions division hauls freight on flatbed trailers. We specialize in hauling metal and construction products, machinery, and over-dimensional and overweight freight. This important service is an important part of CRST’s driving solutions.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide feedback to the Safety Manager- Compliance on the performance of the Safety Administrator team.
  • Demonstrate values for safety and leadership to contractors in both personal and professional lives
  • Answer questions from and address problems of contractors
  • Ensure all driver’s HOS are compliant, contact contractors with HOS issues, and explain the issues to the contractors and what the next steps are for their future success at CRST
  • Contact all contractors that have been assigned a DDC and explain why they have been assigned the DDC, when the DDC is expected to be completed and what the next steps are for their future success at CRST
  • Communicate DDC conversations to Operations and Agents to ensure contractors stay in compliance
  • Monitor all HAZMAT certifications for both new contractors and existing contractors, assuring that both DOT and company requirements are met before a HAZMAT load is dispatched and that no HAZMAT loads are being transported by an unqualified contractor
  • Assist in orientation
  • Assist with maintaining complete DQFs for both new and existing contractors
  • Assist with ensuring compliance with DOT medical requirements, random drug and alcohol programs, physicals, CDL renewals, and annual reviews
  • Act as safety liaison between Contractors, Training, Recruiting, Operations, and Agents
  • Orientation; policy/procedures, DOT Regulations, Safety Training, HOS, Maven, SMITH system, Pre/Post Trip, compliance expectations.
  • Utilize Samba/Vigilio to review all DOT inspections, motor vehicle citations, and accident trends as received on Gardner drivers or equipment to identify trends and recommend prevention measures.
  • Weekly communication with driver managers on specific safety topics. Retain training documents, supply to compliance department in a timely manner for accurate record keeping.
  • Ensure Site Supervisors/Drivers are complying with Site-Specific/OSHA Requirements when performing a site evaluation.
  • Regularly conduct driver evaluations; ride along.
  • Log and track new driver training, utilizing the Driver Training Safety Program.
  • Continue to train and coach drivers; ensure trainer is providing the necessary training to trainee. Driving of tractor, safety standards, use of equipment, and Maven/Elogs.
  • Administer DCO to drivers when needed; to support Manager of Safety.
  • Promote infinit-i training to contractors/agents.
  • Follow up on Accidents/Incidents/Injuries reported by RMIS, complete an investigation if needed. Partner with Accident Prevention Manager to provide documentation. Involvement in Critical Accident Reviews with Operations and Safety Department.
  • Participation is coaching/training that will set contractors/agents up for success.
  • Complete various tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualification Requirements: 

  • ​Previous experience in a related field required
  • A high school diploma or GED required
  • Degree and certification in a related field preferred
