Director – Payroll and Settlements

Job Summary: 

We are looking for a highly skilled and strategic leader to fill our newly created Director of Payroll and Driver Settlements role. Reporting into the CFO, this leader will be transformational in the evolution of our organization.

This is an opportunity to transition multiple payroll/settlement teams into one highly integrated and functional organization.  This gives the right individual the chance to pull from their past experiences and skillset to leave their fingerprint on an organization.  This is part of CRST’s broader OneCRST strategic initiative.  We want to be able to provide career path opportunities for our employees while, at the same time, focusing on the employee, company driver, and 3rd party driver experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Operations, HR, IT, Legal, and Tax to establish and implement a strategic vision for the payroll organization maximizing productivity through team structure, processes, and tool enhancements with emphasis on improving the driver experience
  • Lead the payroll organization (40 individual contributors and managers) serving company drivers, third party drivers and office employees
  • Ensure compliance with all local and federal rules and regulations by establishing a recurring review of the organizations pay checks and reporting
  • Lead with a Continuous Improvement mindset pushing for simplification and automation of processes
  • Coach and develop team focusing on cross department best practice sharing and career development
  • Develop Key Performance Indicators to ensure highest quality of service

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Accounting, Human Resources, or related field
  • 10 years of experience in leading payroll organizations with extra emphasis put on experience within the trucking industry
  • Must be willing to work onsite in Cedar Rapids, IA with minimal travel. Relocation package available for those willing to relocate


  • Master’s Degree in Business Management, Accounting, Human Resources, or related field, preferred
