Job Summary: Continuous Improvement Intern

The Continuous Improvement Intern supports Process Owners through the design, measurement, and improvement of CRST’s core processes.  This person applies Continuous Improvement tools and methods to maximize process performance, and to demonstrate effective usage of the Continuous Improvement skillset throughout the organization. 


Applicants must be an undergraduate student (enrolled in undergraduate courses), during the summer internship, to participate in the Early Talent Program. Interns who successfully complete the Early Talent Program are considered for full-time positions within CRST upon graduation with additional benefits. Housing is available to Cedar Rapids interns, if qualify.


 Job Responsibilities:

  • Manages special projects to define, measure, and improve CRST’s processes in support of the organization’s most pressing business goals.
  • Demonstrates the hands-on practical application of Continuous Improvement tools such as Process Flow Diagramming, Value Stream Mapping, Goal flow-down, Process Analysis, and Change Management.
  • Serves as a change agent, systematically driving continuous improvement and change throughout the business.
  • Day-to-day activities will include meeting with employees to document current-state processes, facilitating brainstorming sessions to identify possible improvements, and overseeing the design and execution of experiments to test the feasibility and impact of recommended changes.
  • The Continuous Improvement office reports directly to the CEO, and specializes in organizational improvements that span multiple operational, back-office, and support departments.

  • Enjoys problem solving the types of cases typically presented in classes such as Operations Management, Organizational Behavior, and Industrial Engineering (actual completion of these courses is not required.)
