CRST Receives EPA’s 2024 SmartWay Excellence Award

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (Sept. 25, 2024) — The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) named CRST a 2024 recipient of its SmartWay Excellence Award.  The award was given out this afternoon during a ceremony with government officials from the U.S. and Canada.

EPA’s SmartWay Excellence Award is the Partnership’s premier recognition of exceptional achievement. CRST was chosen from the more than 4,000 companies and organizations participating in SmartWay.  Awardees lead their industries by improving freight efficiency and contributing to cleaner air throughout their supply chains.

SmartWay Excellence awardees are selected based on exceptional environmental performance as demonstrated by their annual freight assessment and emissions tracking submissions.  

Innovative fleet technology for fuel efficiency and emission reduction is just one way that CRST sets itself apart from others. Through ongoing assessment and implementation of idle time policies, CRST has reduced idle time by 65% over the last five years. CRST increased bio-diesel consumption to 15.5% of total fuel in 2023, as it continues to invest in state-of-the-industry equipment and renewable energy sources.

EPA’s SmartWay program was established to help companies advance supply chain sustainability by measuring, benchmarking, and improving freight transportation efficiency.  Working with SmartWay, U.S. trucking companies have saved $52.3 billion on fuel costs.
