CRST employees and #IAMSAFETY initiative nominated for Iowa Motor Truck Association Awards

Four CRST employees and a company safety initiative have been nominated for recognition as among the “best of the best” in the industry as part of the 2024 Iowa Motor Truck Association’s awards program.

Congratulations to our CRST nominees!

Join us in congratulating the following CRST nominees:

Aaron Moe – Professional Maintenance Technician nominee

With a 25-year career in professional maintenance and 22 with CRST, Aaron’s knowledge and desire to help others be successful have made him an incredible colleague and mentor, according to his nominator.

“Aaron sets the example for the rest of our maintenance technicians. He always finds the time to help, even though he is fully tasked. His everyday hard work does not deter him from taking on new challenges and enjoying learning new things. Anytime we have a truck in the shop that stumps another technician, Aaron will jump in to help. His troubleshooting skills are second to none. We all like to say that Aaron just ‘has a gift that can’t be learned.’

Additionally, Aaron combines a ‘lunch pail mentality’ while being gracious and professional with our drivers. He will sacrifice on any day to ensure our drivers can get rolling safely. He is a selfless leader, professional and caring technician.”

Melvin “Big Country” Hamlin – Outstanding Professional Driver nominee

According to his nominator, with five years as a professional driver with CRST and 750,000 safe miles, Big Country demonstrates everything that is great in our industry.
“Melvin is a driver known across the country. His admirable pride and dedication to wearing the CRST brand are contagious. His leadership abilities are showcased not only in how he wants to empower and develop drivers, but also in how he wants to build the whole CRST driver team to be the best. He is our senior lead driver for our Health Science Plasma business unit.
He is a trainer, mentor, veteran and, most of all, a humble person. Melvin has mentored scores of new entry-level drivers into the trucking industry. He takes pride in lending an ear to listen – and sometimes even a shoulder to cry on – for these drivers throughout their careers.

Robert (Rob) Duncan – Safety Advocate nominee

Rob has marked 27 years in the industry and five with CRST. Rob’s nominator said he is a safety role model and a true lifesaver for his team and the company.

“Rob recently took over the operational leadership of a local Cedar Rapids account with 78 drivers and yard employees. This group struggled with operational efficiencies, accidents and injuries. Instead of devising the typical long list of rules, Rob put safety in the hands of the people. He immediately challenged the team with owning safety, rather than having a designated safety lead. Safety is not a department, but rather a way to take care of each other. This account could not go a day without an accident or injury, and they are now approaching one year without an accident or injury.

“Rob continues to instill safety in his team at the core of all they do, and has accepted a promotion to lead an even larger group. A quote that best describes his approach is, ‘No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.’”

James Sturgeon – Professional Dispatcher Award nominee

James has logged eight years in the dispatcher role and currently supports 22 drivers. His nominator said James is an excellent leader who consistently demonstrates CRST’s values.

“James leads one of our CSL Plasma fleets. He leads with integrity and accountability and has a highly respectable relationship with his entire fleet. This fleet shows in its financials and has a very low turnover rate. James has been with CRST for many years and is incredibly knowledgeable about the CRST mission, vision and values.”

#IAMSAFETY initiative

CRST’s promotion of its #IAMSAFETY culture – which reinforces personal responsibility and our collective commitment to safety across all areas of the business — earned a nomination for the IMTA Image Award. The IMTA Image Award celebrates companies that excel in professionalism and dedication to safety both on and off the highways, while also creatively generating positive awareness of the trucking industry.
